Field Trip to Museum of Fine Arts Houston
Glass Gathering member Richard Hinson who is a retired employee of the Museum of Fine Arts Houston has graciously arranged for our group to take a “behind-the-scenes” tour at the new MFAH warehouse. We will see a variety of the museum’s pieces of glass artwork and learn a bit about how the museum operates and manages its collections.
Directions to the MFAH warehouse:
Please read the directions carefully, and if you use GPS, INCLUDE THE ZIP CODE, because there are different parts of this road in Houston.
Traveling on I-45 South, take the Highway 288 South exit. Stay on 288 (right side of the highway) through to Loop 610. Just past Loop 610, still on 288, you'll see the Belfort exit. The next exit is Reed Road. Take the Reed Road exit and turn left on Reed. (Reed Road exit is 6 miles from IH-45).
One block past the underpass you'll see a Family Dollar Store on the right sitting on a corner. The side street is called Park South View. Turn right on Park South View. This is a dead end street. The museum's warehouse is the last building on the right. If the gate isn't open, use the intercom on the left side of the driveway and someone will open the gate. The address “9250” is on the front fence. Park in one of the parking spaces and someone will meet you at the front door.
